40th Oxford is 75 years old

The 40th Oxford Sea Scout Group was founded in 1940, though it was then located in central Oxford.  We have lots of celebrations planned.

In September last year Beavers, Cubs and Scouts went to Portsmouth to see the ships after which our sections are named.  On June 6th we have a big party planned at Youlbury.  We invite everyone who has had a close connection with the Scouts, at any time in the last 75 years, to join us for a BBQ and campfire.  Please email for more information.

Arrangements for the Day: 8.30    1.00

Parents, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts should arrive at the site and make their way to Bluebell site for 8.30am, to ensure that we can sort everyone into the correct activity group ready to leave for the activities at 9.15am.

All Group members should be in sensible activity wear and have trainers or boots on ready for the activity sessions. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts must wear their Group neckerchief.

Everyone should bring with them a packed lunch and drinks, together with a coat or waterproof. Although we have some chairs and tables available, you may wish to bring your own chairs or blankets to use during the day.


Arrangements for the day:  1.00    8.30

1 –  once the activities have been completed, everyone will return to our sites and join parents and siblings for our packed lunch.

2. – 4.30pm:  we will be running a range of activities for everyone to join in. These include:

Ballista building competition, Have a go on the slippery pole, Craft activities, Tug of War

5. – 5.30pm:  BBQ and drinks for everyone  Camp Fire

8./8.15pm – close of Camp Fire and our Celebration Day

8.30pm  –  Depart for home


Reply Slip and Permission Forms

To ensure that the event runs smoothly we need some additional information from you. This is needed for catering purposes and to enable us to notify the site of the numbers we are expecting. Could you please complete the Reply Slip attached to this letter.

As with every Scouting event, we also need parents to complete the attached Permission Form for each of the Group members attending the event – without the completion and return of this form, they will be unable to attend the event.

Please return both forms to your Section Leader by 20th May
